1. What This Service Is

This site offers free online Japanese vocabulary search, custom quiz sets, interactive quizzes, and learning guides on transitive and intransitive verbs, easily confused words, and the etymology of katakana words. The service is provided as web pages. We don't guarantee that it will be uninterrupted or error-free, or that it will look exactly the same in every browser and on every device.

This site is not the official website of the Japan Foundation, Japan Educational Exchanges and Services (JEES), or any other organization that administers the JLPT, and it has no necessary affiliation with any textbook publisher. The levels, lesson numbers, and vocabulary groupings shown on these pages are teaching categories created to make practice easier.

2. Learning Information Is for Reference Only

The readings, meaning equivalents, example sentences, transitive/intransitive verb groupings, and etymology notes on this site are study aids. Language varies by context, era, and dictionary. We don't guarantee that every entry is the only correct explanation of a given word, and we don't guarantee that the content covers everything tested on any particular JLPT administration.

Using this site does not guarantee that you will pass the JLPT or any other Japanese exam. For official exams, please rely on the information published by the exam administrator, as well as the textbooks you're using and your instructor's guidance. We are not liable for exam results, course grades, or any other learning-related losses that result from relying on this site's content.

The etymology pages summarize commonly taught explanations and the routes by which loanwords entered Japanese. They are not scholarly etymological papers. Likewise, the verb-ending tendencies for transitive and intransitive verbs are only high-frequency clues, so when you run into exceptions, always go by the verb pair as a whole.

3. How You May Use the Site, and What Not to Do

You're free to search vocabulary, build quiz sets, take quizzes, and export backups for your own personal study. Please keep your export files safe. Your quiz sets are stored in your browser's Local Storage, and we can't restore them once your site data is cleared. See the Privacy Policy for details.

Please don't misuse the site, including but not limited to:

• Using automated tools to scrape the site in bulk in a way that noticeably slows or interrupts the service;
• Attempting to break into, interfere with, or tamper with the site or with data in other people's browsers;
• Copying the entire site and passing it off as your own paid product or as an official exam website;
• Using the site to distribute malware or spam, or to upload personal information that you have no right to make public.

Quoting a small number of example sentences or words for personal study, with attribution to this site, is not restricted. If you're not sure whether a particular kind of reposting is appropriate, please ask us on GitHub first.

4. Content and Intellectual Property

We reserve all rights in the site's interface layout, original explanatory text, and the way the quiz sets are organized. Japanese vocabulary itself is a fact of the language and does not become our exclusive property by appearing on this site. Third-party trademarks, including those of the ad system and font services, belong to their respective owners.

Pages may display third-party ads. Ad content is supplied by the ad system and does not mean we endorse the products or claims being promoted. For cookies related to ads, see the Google AdSense section of the Privacy Policy.

5. Changes to and Discontinuation of the Service

We may add, modify, or remove features, quiz sets, and explanatory articles, and we may suspend or end the service, without individual advance notice. Quiz sets already saved in your browser won't automatically sync to a new device when the site is redesigned.

6. Limitation of Liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, this site is not liable for any direct or indirect damages arising from your use of, or inability to use, the service, including data loss, browser incompatibility, the display of ads, and decisions you make based on the learning content. Some jurisdictions don't allow certain liabilities to be excluded. If mandatory local law differs from this section, this section applies only to the extent that the liability can lawfully be excluded.

7. Changes to These Terms and Contact

We may revise these terms at any time. The revised version takes effect once it's posted on this page and the date above is updated. By continuing to use the site after that point, you acknowledge that you've had the opportunity to read the new version.
